I really dont think that smoke is what I would want because smoke to an animal means fire which scares them and makes them run away.

i would say it depends on what type of area you hunt.is the smell of smoke natural or unnatural?i hunt the midwest and the land is a mix of cattle farms and crop fields.after around mid october the air is filled with the smell of wood burning.due to the fact that a majority of the farms use wood to heat.
i think in that situation it would make a great cover scent.now if you hunt the deep woods or swamps and there aren't any houses around it might not work so well.then again it might strike thier curiosity.either way it's bound to be better than human scent.
just my thoughts on the matter
