I could use some feedback on this one...

What are some pros and cons of the Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker and/or Weatherby Vanguard Synethic in 30-06 caliber?

Primarily hunting heavily wooded areas with some open areas (not many) in Missouri.

Thanks

Either one would be an excellent choice.I don't shoot the 30/06 ,but I have used a 300 and a 270 vanguard,my Dad also has a 270 wsm browning(wood stock) and it shoots great.

Oh yeah,my brother in law has an A bolt in the 06 and it's all he carries for long shots or short ones.I don;t think you would go wrong with either gun

I used to have a a bolt compsit stalker in the 280, and that thing was a real tack driver. If you choose to get the browning , get the boss on it, they really do help bring the groups in tight.

I had an A-Bolt composite with the boss system in a 7MM mag. It was a great gun and very accurate with an inexpensive scope. I traded it on an A-bolt Eclipse with the boss and a good scope. The Eclipse being a laminate stock may not waether as well as a composite, but I love the feel of the thumb hole stock.

I've got a Browning Sainless Stalker in 25-06,I handload a 110 grain Nosler Accubond for it with those 2 combinations you can't go wrong. There both very accurate together.

30-06 is a good caliber. There is a lot of different ammo.

I know this is an old topic but I'm new to the forum:

When I was researching rifles I had a hard time finding a Weatherby Vanguard review.

I ended up purchasing one and have been very impressed and happy with the results of my purchase. I purchased the Vanguard Sporter in .270 Winchester.

It's accurate, very very accurate. Weatherby tags some Vanguards with a Sub MOA if they shoot a 1" group or tighter in the factory. Mine didn't qualify at the factory, fortunately for me and my wallet, but it shoots 1" groups when I let it (meaning when I do my part). I'm amazed at the accuracy and I only shoot cheap'ol 130gr Remington Core Lokt ammo. I'm afraid to say the gun is more accurate than I am and is overly adequate for hunting.

This is my primary deer hunting rifle and it's sweet as apple pie.

It's a bit heavy for a mountain/all day hiking gun, but it's weight is by no means offensive. I'm a stump sitter but I still hunt from time to time and it's a breeze to handle. It's very well balanced.

It's put together very well, the stock is beautiful, and the trigger is crisp. The trigger came from the factory with a little creep and is currently a wee bit heavy. But, I know for a fact from other reviews, the trigger can be lightened while eliminating creep. I have to find a Weatherby gunsmith to do this for my after deer season(it's zeroed in right now and deer season opens in a few days)! After all of my research I chose the Vanguard because it has the Howa action-- which has been flawless.

If you're mulling over the Vanguard, do it, and do it now.

One more thing to add... the monte carlo stock puts me on my scope very nicely. I notice that aspect a lot more when I pick up my fathers Remington 700 mountain (a very nice firearm as well).
