I haven`t bow hunted for several years ,but I used to shoot arrows that had feathers but noticed almost all the arrows I`m seeing at stores have the plastic vanes.Does one fly better than the other?Gimme your thoughts.

I personaly don't think one is better than the other, I like the plastic vanes, I think they are more duable I think it all depends on what bow you use, Recurve or Compound, If you want to stay completly traditional One should use feathers With a Recurve,

Feathers are more forgiving, and do fly better but, they are not as durable as vanes. Honestly, I think it just comes down to personal preference. It would be a little more costly to shoot feathers. One, their more expensive, and youll be refletching more often. If you are shooting a traditional bow (recurve, longbow) and you shoot off the shelf, you should most certainly shoot feathers! I shoot 4"vanes from my coumpound, and 5"feathers from my recurve (both with a right helical). Those are my thoughts anyway, hope it helps. Good luck and happy huntin!!

I'd agree with the above...

All that I've read says that feathers are the ultimate to steer an arrow. But their steerage comes with a few prices. First is the extra steering power will steel energy from the arrow causing a slower arrow. Second, they generally are longer and have more crosswind problems.

Plastic vanes are not as tolerant to damage. Most feathers can be healed or trimmed (when damaged) and will still fly true.

I prefer the two in Blazers, they seem to speed my arrow up a little more than feathers...feathers are louder as well

Feathers for the most part are more accurage than vanes the drawback being if you are hunting in wet conditions it is far better to be using vanes and feathers, that is about the only disadvantage to feathers, the weather,,have a good one and be safe out there, bob

DO NOT REGRET GROWING OLD, SOME ARE DENIED THE PRIVILEGE.
