only if he has a strong sholder. maby a 30 30 or a 243. i have a 35 marlin. wen my son was 13 he did not like the recoil of the 35 and would shoot the 30 30. but did like the 243.

I agree with flatswamp. I shoot a 35rem myself(marlin 336), although its not a "mule" its got a bit of a punch. Great deer gun though, puts em down quick!

You know, a "sims" slipon recoil pad would eat up a lot of that punch!! I put one on my "870" slug gun, and "wow what a difference". Just a thought.
