| Im 27 years old and hunting has been a big deal in my family for years. When I turned 21 I got a Class D felony D.W.I. and almost all my hunting rights have been taken from me. I never been bow hunting until last year and for the first time I got a small deer after missing a 12 point buck right behind the smaller deer that I shot because I was shaking so bad I couldn't even hold my bow steady. I was upset for a little bit, but I got over it cause for the first time I shot a deer with a hand me down bow with 5 sights on it that confused the heck out of me everytime shooting it. I enjoyed the challenge of bow hunting and will keep hunting with a bow until I can someday get my other hunting rights back.

| | Bowhunting is the way to go. However, unless you committed some sort of violent crime I don't see why you should have all your prevliges as a U.S. citizen revoked forever. I would consult a good attorney and try to get the felony part of the conviction expunged or reduced to a misdeameanor. Of course I don't know all the facts but some D.A.'s seems to throw felonies at everthing to prove they are tough on crime. In the end instead of punishing people what it does is ruin their lives. | | | |

| If you have kept out of trouble for at least 3 years and have completed all of your probation plus paid in full on your fines, then you should be eligible for a pardon. That would reinstate all of you priveleges including voting and firearm ownership. But getting a pardon hearing is a lengthy process that could take a year. However it would still be worth your while to do this for future hunting seasons.
In the meantime, as long you don't have a probation/parole officer on your case, you should not have any problems hunting with a bow, crossbow, muzzleloader, or any other non-regulated, primitive weapon. But if you do have an officer on your case, any of these methods can be construed as you having a dangerous weapon and he/she could charge you. Even for having a pocket knife with a blade longer than 3 inches.
Good luck this season and may you soon find a solution for your predicament. | | | |
