Due a serious illness with my wife I'm unable to set out any lures this year in my hunting area as I normally do. I will get there about a week before opening day. I usually have minerals and a salt lick out by now. Can I still put them out when I get there? will a week be enough for them to find it? If not what would you suggest that I try in place of these? By the way the wife should be fine. Don't really care for scents. Thanks!

The only thing that you can hunt over here in Alabama legally, other than food plots and natural food sources is plain salt.
The deer around here don't frequent mineral/salt licks in the winter months very often.

They can find the licks within a week, or less, the question will be will they acutally pattern on it? I would say it would take a minimum of a couple of weeks for them to actually get used to coming to it. One thing to remember, putting something out that is odd, such as an apple scented or flavored lick, when there is not an apple tree in three counties around it, would be an odd scent that can make them avoid the area, rather than come to it. So make sure its neutral, such as a mineral rock, or such.
