I currently own a Weatherby Fibermark in 7mm WBY mag and was looking to pick up another rifle for next season, possibly one that has mild recoil and would be comfortable to shoot at the range also.  I plan to keep my 7mm as my all around rifle, so I am looking for something perfectly suited for just whitetails.  Would you guys recommend a .25-06 or a 7mm-08 or any other caliber? Also, what do you all recommend from a Tikka T3, Browning A-bolt, or a Remington 700?  Any help is appreciated.

Picked up the new Remington 750 Woodsmaster .308 Carbine synthetic, and i gotta say this is a great rifle. Just doing a little research got me sold on this one and the recoil is next to nothing. Both the traditonal wood and synthetics come with a 3in butt stock pad and its great. My 115lb fiance can even shoot this one and the preformance is outstanding.

Your key word here is "managed recoil", so, I would have to recommend a .308 with a 150 grain bullet.

If you go with a .25-06, .30-06, of .270, you will not be dropping your recoil sustantially.

My 12 year old son shoots a 270 with no trouble at all,but if you are looking for low recoil, look at the 243.It is a very accurate cal.

I use a .35 rem,.243,or a .25-06 depending on what kind of terrain I'am hunting, the .35 rem is loaded with 200 grain round nose's,.243 use's 100 grain Partition's an the .25-06 is loaded with 110 grain Accu bonds. The .35 rem is for wooded creek bottom's an the .243 an .25-06 is for open country.

.270 WSM chambering 130gr federal vital shok. hands down the deadliest, most accurate rifle in my opinion.

30-30 or .35 cal for thick, tight hunting areas. .270, 25.06, 30.06 for open range.

I've taken deer with several cals-- 30-30, 22-250, 270, 30-06, 223, 243, 300 mag, 7mm all are good. What really matters is shot placement, as I've lost deer based on a bad shot as well. Practice, Practice, Practice. Personally I do like the 270 best, it has good all around range as well knock down power.

As you can see the best caliber is dependent on the person.

My personal favorite is the 30-06. I have a Remington Model 700 synthetic stock 30-06 topped with a 6-24 x 42 Tasco scope and shoot my own reloads of a 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. Since getting into reloading about 4 years ago I have taken 5 deer all with one shot.

I have hunted with 303 British, 30-30, 35, 7x57 Mauser, 8x57 Mauser, 243 and 30-06. This is in a span of 27 years using these different calibers and the best one I have come to use is the 30-06.

But again this is my personal experience here in the mountains of WV hunting whitetail deer.

I use a savage 110L in 30-06. but If you are looking for less recoil try either the 243 or a 257 roberts. My brother uses a 257 roberts and it is extremely accurate.

Asking what is the perfect whitetail caliber is like asking what it takes to have the perfect woman!
