I would not look for a super fast bow,the slower bows are more forgiving. The one I had was.I started with a Bear Whitetail Hunter.

go to different pro shops and shoot every bow you can,  figure out what you can spend and go from there.

The bow I started with was 200 dollars, killed my first 2 deer with it.  You DO NOT have to spend big dollars to get a good starter bow

That is what I thought this local shop wanted me to spend close to 1000 bucks just to get started

1000 dollars wil buy you a really top notch set up....do you really need that as a starter?

I would argue no.

ask some friends if they bowhunt, what they have etc.

Almost all of the newer low end packages at cabelas and bass pro are nice bows and  are a heck of a lot smoother and nicer than what I started with.

you can even get a decent USED bow for real cheap if you do your homework.

I still say go to different pro shops, find what you feel to be the best feeling bow for you (for the $$$$) and then just go with it.

YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NOIT HAVE TO SPEND 1000 DOLLARS TO GET A GOOD SET UP TO START WITH.

keep us all posted!

That is my plan...There are alot of people local selling nice setups on the craiglist for around 200...I dont have a 1000 bucks so I have to do my homework.  As I find setups on craigslist I may run them past someone on here if that is ok?...I pretty much have no one to go to but here

Thanks

If you want to lookl for a deal I would also check out ebay. Just make sure you shoot the bows somewhere first before buying. Then go with the one that feels the best to you.

This is a broad question but are there any bows that are just absolutely terrible that I should stay away from?

anyone can buy a lemon and not know it.....even a high  end bow could have a problem that can be fixed....if it happens continuously, well then you might think you have wasted some money...

all the MAJOR brands are what most guys/gals on this site are probably shooting.  But all of the company have beginner style bows that have the same warranty that the higer end one's have...just get out and shoot em all and you will get you own opinion, and that is what matters the most.

Getting started is difficult to do right, in the back yard. Go to a range and get some help!!!
