| When I was younger, I shot very well out to 50 yards. Hunting in the woods is a different story though. In the hardwoods, I am comfortable to 30 yards with a good shooting lane. Beyond that, you never know what little limbs may be sticking in the way to deflect your arrow. I hunt one location in particular where I have taken several nice deer. This spot is really thick with small trees, vines, honeysuckle, etc. I have cleared some shooting lanes but any shot you take here had better not be more than 20 yards. Most of mine in this spot are 10 to 15 yards. It makes for an exciting hunt when you have to wait for a deer to get that close to get a clear shot!
Last season I took a longer shot in this location at a nice 11 pointer. It was in one of my shooting lanes, or rather at the extreme end of it. What should have been a heart / lung shot ended up hitting the left ham. My arrow plinked off an unseen limb and deflected wildly to the rear of the deer. I remember seeing the Luminock making a hard right turn just before reaching the deer. Needles to say, I was upset about that shot! I waited an hour before trailing the buck. He left a trail you could follow with your eyes closed. I found him down and too weak to get up. I sneaked to within twenty yards behind him and placed one in his chest to finish the deal. Later I went back, found the offending limb and cut it off. | | If it wouldn't a been good I wouldn't a done it.

| For whitetails my max distance is 30 yds, most of my spot don't offer shots much beyond that anyway.
For elk and antelope, my max is 50 yds, in open country you vary rarely will be able to stalk much closer than that. | | Todd Segner 5 year Buckmasters Member Life Member NAHC, NAFC Member NAFA VP, Archery ICB&GC PSE Field Staff Mossy Oak Pro Staff - Whitetail Pursuit TruBall Releases HIP Targets Pro Staff TRU Ball Releases

| | Thats a tough question. The conditions and situation determines my comfort zone. With conditions and situation considered perfect, I dont have any problems taking a deer at 50-55, and have done that several times. My practice sessions consist of shooting 80-90% of my shots at 50, 60, 70, and 80 yards. Those long distance practice shots do wonders for form, release, and pin steadieness. After 6 or 7 shots at 70 and 80, shooting a 40 or 50 yard shot is easy, and a 20 yard shot, almost unfair. I still prefere that "unfair" 20 yard shot while in the woods! | | You can run, but your gonna leave a blood trail! | |

| | I am confident with my abilities out to 33 yards no question....but until I pony up the money for a faster bow, mine only shoots about 220 I think the ducking issue would be a problem for me....even 70 more ft/sec would make a huge difference! | | DRENALIN SIDEWINDER LX AXIS ST G5 STRIKER | |
