Win A Hunt!

It’s a legitimate question.  When I think of hunting I think of solace, the wonder of nature, animals gliding like shadows through the timber.  It’s very private and personal experience for me and I love it.  While hunting on mountain tops for wild sheep, or in the high timber bugling for bull elk, or lowland forests for whitetails, the sights and sounds offered up by Mother Nature have always been awe inspiring and enough for any sane man, I think.

However, there are some things I’ve never experienced in my pursuit of hunting and somehow I don’t believe these “things” really relate to the world of hunting.  I’ve never seen a guy riding a buffalo or on top of a high rack with a machine gun.  Uh-Oh, have I committed the cardinal sin and bad mouthed machine guns?  No, not at all.  I simply say that such a sight I’ve never seen while out hunting.  Nor have I ever seen a deer hunting contest in progress where people were pitted against each other, as well as against the deer, which yield big dividends for the winners – in other words - killing for dollars.

This stuff is all about show business, and it reminds me of the nightly news.  There no unbiased reporting – there’s always an agenda.  I wonder what agenda our show biz antics say to the non-hunting public. Remember them? They are the majority who actually decided if we get to hunt or not.  Someone said that the anti-hunters no longer have to create propaganda films; they can just show the public our own shows!

I am dating myself, I know, but I grew up in a time when being a gentleman, on camera and off, was important.  My, how times have changed.
