Slow Going
By dhart on9/17/2007 12:30 PM
I hit a wall on losing weight. I have been eating right, and exercising, but I seem to have stopped shedding the pounds. My weight has not budged the last two weeks. I still weight 254 ½ pounds.

I am going to get out of bed earlier and knock out half of my daily workout routine in the morning, and finish it up in the evening. Hopefully this tactic will spark my continued weight loss. I am also going to meet up with Mike Esco, my trainer from Auburn Montgomery, later this week and modify my weight training.

I suspect that these two modifications will help jump start my health kick. I hope so, because it’s tough working hard at something without seeing any improvements. I realize my body is healthier on the inside, but that doesn’t keep the momentum going like visible results.

On another note, I am going to post video of my archery exercises and practice. These clips will hit our website in the next few days.

The Results Are In
By dhart on9/10/2007 12:04 PM
After having a restless night, and with a little trepidation, I went to my first checkup with the folks over at Auburn Montgomery’s (AUM) Human Performance Lab. They were cordial, inviting, and quickly put me at ease. It is a true testament to their professionalism.

After running me through the paces, and measuring this and that, they handed my report card to me. Here are the results:

Stat This time Last time Comment
Height 67 Inches 67 Inches No growth - GRRRR!

Weight 247 lbs. 252 lbs. 5 lbs.lost-WOOHOO!

BMI-Body Mass 38.7 39.5 1 point drop - YEAH!

Body Fat % 25.76% 27.5% 1¾ % Drop - NICE!

Well, there you have it. I’m not yet ripped…yet. But I am getting there. Everyone noticed that my face and upper body had slimmed considerably, and my legs had ...

Labor Day Weekend Woes
By dhart on9/4/2007 11:45 AM
Man, I am not enjoying the Labor Day holiday right now. The scales were not kind to me following our weekend trip to my dad’s river lot in north Alabama.

During August my daily ritual has been to weigh on Friday and Monday mornings. Last Friday I weighed 245.5 pounds. I weighed 264 pounds when I began my journey and had lost almost 20 pounds by last Friday

Needless to say, I was stoked!!

Then, after the weekend up at the river, I weighed in at 249.5 pounds. I had regained 4 pounds. Bummer!!

I did not over eat, and thought that I had behaved myself pretty well. Thinking back on it, I made a few bad decisions. I had a couple of helpings of desert (pineapple pudding) during a few of moments of weakness. Plus, I ate a little too much smoked Boston Butt. Both foods were temptations I could not pass up.

I also attribute a lot of my weight gain to being away from my base which where I can control the f ...

Where There's a Hand, There's a Will
By dhart on8/27/2007 2:08 PM
Last time, I left off by saying that there had been some exciting happenings on the publicity front. I’ll get to that in a moment.

Right now I want to share with you where I am hunting this fall and give you some information about the companies who are supporting my endeavor.

This November I have been blessed to go hunting with Travis Simpson and Dan Langlois in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. For those of you who have never heard of Buffalo County, Wisconsin, I’m letting a well-kept secret out of the bag.

Buffalo County is the top-ranked county in the U.S.A for having the most entries recorded in the Boone and Crocket record books. The county has twice as many entries in the book as the number two county on the list, a whopping 45 entries. To put that into perspective, the 2 counties tied for second place have 23 entries each. These two counties combined beat Buffalo County by one entry.

The Update
By dhart on8/21/2007 12:57 PM
The fight goes well. Thanks to the customized eating plan and the exercise program I have lost 15 pounds. I feel a lot better and the routine is becoming a habit. That is half the battle for me.

My last post mentioned that I would share with you my workout program and eating plan. So here we go.

The eating program was created by professors at AUM and it is a very simple plan that you can develop to fit your dietary needs. It is created with the help of the USDA’s new pyramid system called “My Pyramid.” All you have to do is go to www.mypyramid.com, put in your goals, and the site generates an eating plan that will get you to your goals. It even gives you tracking sheets so you can print out and track your daily progress, which to me is the key to any successful diet/exercise plan. It really is that simple. If you are wanting to make a positive change, there is a mountain of good information there. Use it to your advantage.< ...

Fitness Assessment from Auburn Montgomery (AUM)
By dhart on8/15/2007 2:03 PM
Last time, I left off telling you how things were coming together on these self improvement projects, and today I am going to tie everything together so we can get on to the business of transformation.
D Hart
At this point you know that I had a life altering moment, and decided that I wanted to change my life. After deciding to loose weight and get back into archery, via a co-worker, I was lead to AUM, and their great staff in the Exercise physiology department. That is where we pick up today.

After learning that there was an archery guru right in our own back yard, Daniel Dye made a call to a former colleague over at AUM in their media and information department. He told them what we wanted to do, and to see if they would be interested in working ...

Some Background Information
By dhart on8/13/2007 1:50 PM

In my last entry, I talked about the events that have caused me to want to change my lifestyle. For the next 12 months, I will chronicle my trials and tribulations that I’ll face along the way.

D Hart

The first accomplishment I want to achieve is to lose weight and get back in shape. Not long ago, I was in good shape, but a couple of injuries and my fading will to exercise have led to me gaining about 70 extra pounds. That is coming off.

I recently discovered a little know fact that hunters reading my blog will find interesting. More hunters die each year in the field from heart attacks than the other nine reasons combined. Some ...
