From U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance
-- Representative Nick Rahall (D-WV), Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, introduced a bill that will allow hunting in the New River Gorge National River.
Rep. Rahall's bill, H.R. 5137, mandates that hunting be allowed in the New River Gorge National River, while the existing law says hunting "may" be permitted.
This change will protect sportsmen and their hunting opportunities at the National River. There had been some debate as to the future of hunting availability in the area.
"Sportsmen should support H.R. 5137," said Rick Story, U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) senior vice president. "Representative Rahall is to be commended for working to make sure conservation will continue at New River Gorge. Closing this language loophole will be a step in the right direction for hunter's rights in West Virginia."
New River Gorge National River in West Virginia is a part of the National Parks System.
