Hi, my name is Madison Shubert. I am 8 years old. This is the first year I got to hunt with my own gun. On Thanksgiving morning I went in the woods with my dad at 5:30 a.m. and it was cold and dark.
We set up in a blind and waited and waited. At 8:45 a.m. we heard a deer coming down the ridge toward the creek and it was a doe. I got my Rossi 410 with a slug ready. My dad grunted but the doe ran real fast across the field. But then my dad said, ' 'here comes another one.' ' When it stopped at the creek we noticed it was a buck. It walked through the creek and up into the field. I was ready and when my dad grunted at him and then I shot him. It was the best day of my life!
We are going to take the buck to the taxidermist and put him on the wall with my dadâs. I hope more dads take their kids hunting because my dad always tells my sister, my brother, and me that we are going to be great hunters in the future.
After I shot it we went home with it. All of my friends and their parents came to see it. The buck had 4 points. My dad told me that it was really cool that I shot my first deer and it was a buck. After everyone left we took it to the taxidermist. When we got there we dropped it off and went home. We all celebrated when my dad and I got home. It was the happiest day of my life!
