Four Tools for Escape

Four Tools for Escape

Tip Courtesy of Nationwide

In the event of an accident, these products will help you escape from your car or truck as quickly as possible, even if it is submerged in a body of water:

ResQMe ($12.95) is a convenient keychain rescue tool that fits in the palm of your hand and can cut through seatbelts and break glass.

LifeHammer ($19.95) does the same but is larger (6.75 inches) and can be mounted to the inside of your car for easy reach.

From Benchmade, the ERT-1 (MSRP $40) can also cut seatbelts and break glass but also provides LED light with the click of a button.

The 4-in-1 SafetyStick Emergency Tool & Flashlight ($19.95) has a flashlight, seatbelt cutter and steel-pointed glass-break hammer, and also includes flashing red LED strobes to alert oncoming motorists of emergency situations, plus a magnet for attaching to a metal vehicle part.

Make a List, Check It Twice!
It never fails. You settle into your stand and suddenly realize there's something important you forgot. We hunters use so much gear, it's easy to accidentally leave items miles away at home.

Bowhunter's Extreme Cold Tip
For those of us bowhunters who stick through late season, especially in the north like my home state of Wisconsin, extreme cold weather can be an issue.

Chlorophyll Capsule Odor Eliminator
About three weeks before each bow season begins, I stop by my local supplement store and pick up a bottle of chlorophyll capsules.

My Five Steps to a Big Buck!
1. Locate several areas with good deer sign in spring and summer months, and especially just after hunting season ends, but don't hang a stand yet.

Call Loudly!
To make noise of any kind goes against the nature of hunting, because remaining silent at all costs is ingrained into every hunter's mind since the day we made our first trip into the deer woods.

Carabiners: Not Just for Hikers
Most white-tailed deer hunters have hunted from a treestand or elevated blind at some point in their careers. If we are hunting safely, we use a strong rope to pull up our bow, firearms and backpacks.

Blackpowder Wine Cork Trick
As I was cleaning my muzzleloader after another successful season, I got to thinking about a way to plug the barrel and allow my cleaning solution to soak in the breech for as long as I wanted.

Homemade Vanilla Spray
If the deer on your property are beginning to lose interest in your bait pile or salt and mineral blocks, try making it interesting to them again by using a trick I've used for some time now.

Double Up On Scent-Lok
You can say what you want to say about scent-elimination clothing, but I honestly believe if used correctly, these products can really help hunters fool a deer's nose.

Stop That Deer!
How many times have you watched a hunting show and have seen this scenario? A deer approaches a hunter, usually a bowhunter, and the shot is made as soon as the deer is in range, yet it is still walking.
