Four Tools for Escape

Four Tools for Escape

Tip Courtesy of Nationwide

In the event of an accident, these products will help you escape from your car or truck as quickly as possible, even if it is submerged in a body of water:

ResQMe ($12.95) is a convenient keychain rescue tool that fits in the palm of your hand and can cut through seatbelts and break glass.

LifeHammer ($19.95) does the same but is larger (6.75 inches) and can be mounted to the inside of your car for easy reach.

From Benchmade, the ERT-1 (MSRP $40) can also cut seatbelts and break glass but also provides LED light with the click of a button.

The 4-in-1 SafetyStick Emergency Tool & Flashlight ($19.95) has a flashlight, seatbelt cutter and steel-pointed glass-break hammer, and also includes flashing red LED strobes to alert oncoming motorists of emergency situations, plus a magnet for attaching to a metal vehicle part.

Tracks Mark the Spot
We all know what deer tracks look like, but it's amazing how many hunters fail to read the clues in tracks. While some hunters are so adept at reading tracks that they can often determine with amazing accuracy when a particular track is left by a ...

Do you sit in your stand and wonder if (and when) you should use a grunt call? The truth is that there is no set rule about the right time to use a grunt call -- but there are times when you should use one.

Can You Determine the Age of Your Deer?
Many hunters are curious to know the age of their deer. Anyone can age a deer... to a point. Look at the third molar (from the front) on the bottom jaw. If that tooth has three "parts," then the deer is 1.5 years old. Note that the tooth might act...

The Eyes Have It
If you can see a deer's eye, the deer can see you -- and that's an important tip to remember. When a deer is close, don't move if it can see you. It's the movement that attracts a deer's attention. Unfortunately, you have to move in order to draw ...

Only Perfect Practice Makes Perfect
Jackie Bushman likes to say that "Practice doesn't make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect." Those are good words to keep in mind as bowhunters get out their equipment for the fast-approaching seasons.

Test Your Setup
Experience hunters know how important it is to make a setup well before hunting season and then to let it alone until opening day. If you know the deer frequent that area and will continue to do so from scouting time through the start of the seaso...

It's Time To Put Your Buck To Bed
Knowing where deer bed down for the day is one of the keys to finding the right place to set up a stand. Unfortunately, you can really mess up your hunting chances if you disturb a bedding area any time close to hunting season.
