Thanks for the nice comments. My best friend and I drove to another game zone where bow season opened on Sept. 1st and hunted on his families hobby farm. This guy walked under my perch just after first light. The arrow did not pass through as it hit the backbone, but he dropped in his tracks. Saw some other bucks but none as nice as this one. No does came in range for either of us, but you better believe that there will be a follow-up trip to that little horse farm. It's 3 years in a row now that I've taken a deer on opening day. Later Saturday, we went to a public dove field and got our limit on doves by 6:00 pm (and got checked by the game warden, all good there). Gonna be hard to top a day like that! |

Also, note that he has just rubbed all the velvet off his antlers. I found this to be a little unusual. A buck his age usually keeps his velvet til mid-September here, but the Game Warden said that happens when we have a draught like we did this year. |
