i was just wandering weather a Remmington Core Lokt or Ballistic Tip. i would like to use the bullet for deer and coyote hunting with my 25-06.
deerhunter,
I reload for my 25-06 Marlin XL7. I use Nosler 115 grain ballistic tips. This is the round I used for deer hunting and I am here to tell you they do a job. I got a doe the second week of our gun season and was really impressed with that bullet.
I have used Nosler ballistic tips since I started reloading about 5 years ago. This was my first year using the 25-06, I mainly hunt with a 30-06 Remington Model 700. I use 150 Nosler ballistic tips in my 30-06. Since using them I have not had to shoot more than once at a deer. Five out of 5 deer dropped in their tracks using the ballistic tips.
I use to use Remington 180 round nosed coreloc bullets in my 30-06 and when I started reloading I starting checking the charts and specs on bullets and chose the Nosler 150 grain ballistic tip. I haven't been sorry since.
What reading I have done is that for coyote and varmits use the 70 grain Nosler ballistic tip and the right amount of powder and you could get velocities close to 4,000 fps. I have fallen in love with the 25-06 and especially the Marlin XL7 rifle that I bought this past year. I have always been a Remington fan, everything is Remington and also 30-06, like my 742 BDL, 760 BDL and 700 ADL are all chambered in 30-06. My shotguns are Remington, 1100, 870 and even my 22 is Remington a 552 ADL. But this new Marlin XL7 is a great rifle for the price, around $340, and the 25-06 is a great caliber.
