Comfort Starts at Your Feet

Install a footrest on your favorite stand to make it even more lovable.

The more time you put in a treestand, the more you become aware of the aches, pains and stiffness that comes with sitting immobile for hours on end (those of you in your 20s and 30s will know what we’re talking about in a few more years).

There is one small add-on that doesn’t come with most treestands that can make a world of difference in your comfort, and that is a footrest. Elevating your feet just a few inches off the stand platform eases pressure on your back and hips to an astonishing level. Bringing your knees up a bit also helps provide a solid rest for taking gun shots while seated. You might still have to rest your elbows on your knees to get a firm foundation, but a footrest makes that much easier.

Most treestand manufacturers offer footrest kits for under $30. In most cases, you will have to drill a few small holes in your stand (or use a powered drill with self-tapping screws), but footrest installation only takes about 10 minutes, with the hardest part just making sure you have everything oriented correctly. There are also semi-universal, third-party kits that fit most stands.

The footrest will add a few ounces to your stand’s weight, but not enough to make a noticeable difference. But you will notice the difference in comfort when using the stand.
