Laser Blood Trail Pointer

Laser Blood Trail Pointer

By Mark Kay

When it comes to trailing deer, the task can become confusing and difficult in the dark.

Getting the blood trail right from the start is incredibly important and easy to mess up, especially if you have other hunters chipping in to help.

Experienced hunters know how easy it is to destroy evidence of a hit when several pairs of boots are stomping around the search area. That’s why I came up with my own technique to recover wounded game.

Things in the woods look different on the ground, so from the elevated vantage of my treestand, I use a laser pointer to direct one or more of my buddies to the exact location where the deer was standing when it was shot.

I can use the laser pointer to point out the path the deer took as it ran away, steering my friends to where I think they will find good sign without walking directly on the potential trail. It certainly makes giving them directions much easier.

The laser pointer works at a great distance, in daylight and it takes up very little room in a pack.
