Stringless Drag Rag

Stringless Drag Rag

By Torrey Owens

I’m one of those hunters who likes to use drag rags.

If you don’t know what a drag rag is, it’s simply a piece of cloth soaked in scent, then attached to the hunter by a string. The rag leaves a scent trail as you walk.

But I hate using strings. They snag on everything in your path and create extra noise, especially on dry, windless mornings when the woods are extra crunchy.

I’ve found a remedy and want to share with Buckmasters fans.

I take a small eye screw and secure it into the back of the heel of my boot.

Next, I take old undershirts that have been washed in scent-free detergent and cut them into 4-inch squares.

I poke a hole through the fabric with a paper clip then clip the rag to the eye screw.

Now, I squirt deer lure on the rag and I’m good to go.

When I get to where I want deer to stop, I simply unhook the paper clip and slide it over a branch.

This setup is inexpensive, and you can buy eye screws in any hardware store for a few cents.

Now your drag rag will be more effective and you’ll cut down on the noise, snags and frustrations of using string.
