15,501 deer taken during gun season opener

Results from opening day of white-tailed deer-gun hunting season report 15,501 deer taken by Ohio hunters. During the 2018 season, 13,651 deer were harvested on the opening day of gun season.

Top 10 counties for deer harvest on opening day include Coshocton (663), Ashtabula (601), Tuscarawas (557), Knox (544), Muskingum (511), Guernsey (426), Holmes (423), Licking (399), Harrison (385), and Carroll (377).

Through Dec. 1, a total of 76,822 deer have been taken by Ohio archery hunters. Young hunters checked 6,234 white-tailed deer during the 2019 two-day youth gun season, Nov. 23-24. The deer-gun season is open to Dec. 8, as well as Dec. 21-22.

Deer-muzzleloader season is Jan. 4 through Jan. 7, 2020. Deer-archery season is open now through Feb. 2, 2020. Find complete details in the 2019-2020 Hunting and Trapping Regulations.
