72,814 deer checked to date during gun season

With two days remaining in deer-gun season, hunters checked 72,814 white-tailed deer during the 2017 weeklong deer-gun hunting season. Last year, hunters checked 66,758 deer during the weeklong deer-gun season.

Dec. 16 and 17 remain in deer-gun season. Muzzleloader season is Jan. 6-9, 2018. Archery season remains open through Feb. 4.

Ohio ranks fifth nationally in resident hunters and 11th in the number of jobs associated with hunting-related industries. Hunting has a more than $853 million economic impact in Ohio through the sale of equipment, fuel, food, lodging and more, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s Hunting in America: An Economic Force for Conservation publication.
