Holiday hunt nonresident tags available Dec. 15

By Iowa Department of Natural Resources

Nonresident licenses for Iowa’s special nonresident holiday deer hunt, Dec. 24 to Jan, 2, go on sale Dec.15, and must be purchased at a license retailer rather than the online site.

Some antlerless tags are still available for nonresidents. Even if a hunter was not able to get tags through Iowa's annual lottery, or would like to add an additional tag, some antlerless tags remain and are sold on a first-come first-served basis.

Nonresident hunters who have not purchased a deer tag for the 2016 deer season can buy one antlerless-only tag for the discounted price of $78. Legal methods of take for the season include muzzleloader, bow and handgun.

It is recommended to make the purchase quickly. To check the number of tags available by county, click here.

Nonresident hunters who purchase an antlerless tag online but it still hasn't arrived before the trip to Iowa can purchase a duplicate of that tag at an Iowa license vendor once you arrive for $4.50.
