Retrieving 25 images of a fantastic buck from his trail cameras in July and August of 2013 inspired 23-year-old Kyle Robertson to take up bowhunting. So stoked at the prospect of taking the deer, he didn't want to wait for or be limited to the state's firearms season.

The stream of nighttime photographs ceased two weeks before Kentucky's bow season opened, which frustrated Kyle, but the buck of his dreams returned to the lens in late September.

Kyle has access to 250 acres in Todd County, but he spent most of his time in the same tree-studded funnel between corn, bean and CRP fields. He set up a pop-up at the edge of the CRP and another blind next to the cornfield. Just to have a third option, he also hung a treestand the Sunday prior to gun season.

On Friday morning, Nov. 8, the day before the firearms opener, he bowhunted from the hang-on stand until about 7:45. He returned to that tree with his 7mm Mag on Saturday.

Soon into his vigil, he heard a distant crash and saw a buck at between 125 and 150 yards. When the deer began walking toward him, Kyle realized it was the wide one.

Perhaps two minutes later, he shot it.

The 20-pointer surpasses the 200-inch mark even without the impressive inside spread added, due largely to bases measuring 6 7/8 and 6 inches, sweeping main beams, and 47 inches of irregular growth.
