What gets me,is when they say it was a good shot and it looks like they hit the deer way back and to me that is not a good shot.

They film the shot by the hunter after the real shot takes place. Much of what you see is staged after the real shot. I saw a shot this weekend that was high and back on a deer and they pretended it was a good shot, didn't say how far they had to track it. The shows are about entertainment more than hunting. The "Judge" was hunting a high fenced operation and tried to justify it but it was obvious the deer were not spooked much by the hunters. The bucks even had tags in their ears.

For a guy like me who barely has any good luck when it comes to hunting, seeing them pass up 6 bucks in the 130-140 class and then shooting a 170-180 class all in the same morning just gets on my nerves !!!
I guess they have to do those things you mentioned for TV since the star of the show has no idea he should walk to a certain spot at a certain time on que.

What really sets me off is when it's 3 pm, the sun isn't even causing shadows yet, there are a million deer in the food plot, you see the shot (gun or bow it don't matter) you see the 'hit', be it the arrow entering or the bullet shock wave on the animal, then the 'hunter' is walking up on the deer and it is pitch black dark out. I agree with a mandatory wait period post-shot, but it makes you think sometimes. I've actually taped shows and played them back to find that the 'shot deer' and the 'found deer' weren't the same!! Shows lose their credibility very fast. I know it's because of the anti's, but once I would like to see the deer get shot, run, stagger, fall, flail about and die. Why? Because that's how it happens. We're watching HUNTING!! Not Walt Disney.

I hate the condescending way they talk to the viewers: "He's walking to the left...Oh! He stopped behind a bush...He's walking now...". No $h!t, sherlock. I got eyes too. The acting is TERRIBLE. Get in your treestand, shut-up (or at least whisper) and don't act like its such a big deal. After all, most of these "pro's" kill a dozen or more nice animals every year.

I've found the soltuion though: TiVo! Thats right. Record them and then FF past the bs.

I have the same opinions as most of you have. However I did find a show just recently and so far from what I've seen it's very educational. It's called Deer and Deer Hunting I think is the name. But they do things like after the shot they explain where the shot was and how effect it was at killing the animal. May be worth checking out!

Does it cost anything to watch the videos on there?

Another thing that gets me is ,those folks on those shows make it sound like that it's so easy to manage these places .I promise you they don't have people around them who aren't trophy hunters or public access close enough to hurt their operations.
Managing property takes money and time which I don't have alot either one.

those ranches you see that manage their herd are Millionaires with thousands of acres and spend tens of thousands of dollars on food plots. their herd management has an impact on the herd and it shows. You can't do that with a few hundred acres unless you get the neighbors in on it. Plus they get to hunt over baited areas, seen jeff Foxworthy whack a monster buck and it ran by a standing feeder as it made its death run . ( sorry if this sparks a baiting debate but that takes away from real hunting if you ask me)

botechboy,it's not the fact that it's a paid hunt, the thing is the way they make the management of these places to be so easy and affordable. It's like those folks think everyone has thousands of acres and alot of money.
I don't fault anyone for going on a paid hunt,as a matter of fact my son and I are going a paid duck hunt in Jan.
And you are right, even a crappy hunting show is better than most of the garbage on tv.

theres nothing wrong with payed hunts I been wanting to go on one myself. but when, I watch a show ,I don't want to be told before the shot that they got the deer . I want the excitment as if i was there with them to see if there going hit or miss the deer . don't tell me before they even shoot the deer.
