ive just bought an sks resently and have thought about  using  it for deer hunting. it shoots a 7.62*39cal shell. ive heard that thier pretty accurate and good for about 400 yards shots.but ive also been told that its not to good for deer hunting because the bullet travels to fast and when it hit it doesn,t have any punch to stop a deer in its tracks. does anyone have any intake or advise on this subject

A buddy of mine dropped a deer in its tracks at 100 yards. I keep one as a back-up for my .308. I'm told it has about the same power as a 30-30 but a better trajectory due to the pointed bullets.

I use a Norinco SKS every year -it's a good brush gun . most of my shots are within 20-30yds- heavy cover which makes the 10 rd mag handy- it deflects easily (I don't fire wildly) but it's ready for the next shot quickly-also make sure and buy quality ammo(winchester makes a good hunting round) alot of the foreign made brands are not consistant-but I always try to buy hollow point-------Also I carry my 270 rem for those important long shots .I've replaced the original stock with a monte carlo style for an added 1-2 inch longer length plus lighter carrying weight. The one I hunt with is open sights or I probably would make longer shots

an excellent 100 yard gun.we've killed several out to 100 yards and all were DRT.we use the soft point or hollow point

You can use a 10 round magazine for deer? In Alabama we can only have 5 rounds.
