2008-09 Buckmasters Online Story Contest Winners

BuckEye OrionFrom Buckmasters Online

-- The results are in and the winners have been chosen for the 2008-09 Buckmasters Online Story Contest. With more than 140 great stories to choose from, it wasn’t easy, but the prize for the best story goes to Bill Claspell from Pueblo West, Colo.

Bill gave us a bit of a dilemma with his nostalgic story about the meaning of luck at elk camp. The winner’s story gets published in Buckmasters Whitetail Magazine (which doesn’t run elk stories) but since the rules didn’t say the stories had to be about whitetails, we’ll be publishing an article about elk camp this year. But that’s okay, because Bill’s story will appeal to all hunters, especially those who have kids.

Mission ArcheryIn addition to having his story published in the magazine, Bill won a Buckeye Cam Orion trail camera ( This advanced trail camera can work as a stand-alone unit or, with the proper equipment, can transmit its photos to a PC up to 2 miles away.

Two random winners also were drawn from the rest of the stories. Jennifer Bilott from Hunker, Pa., and Jeff Story from Jonesborough, Tenn., will each win Mission Buckmasters bows ( Mission Buckmasters bows are smooth, quiet and fast and include features like a perimeter-weighted cam, cable roller guards, string cushions and an impressive IBO speed rating of 318 fps. will continue to publish stories sent in for the contest. If we publish your story, we’ll send you an exclusive Buckmasters Online contributor cap. Special thanks to everybody who sent an article, and keep up the great writing. We love to read your deer hunting stories!
